Byoung-Do Kim, PhD

Director of Research Computing
BD leads the SOM research computing program and also supports university-wide collaborations such as CADRE. He received his PhD in Aeronautics and Astronautics Engineering from Purdue University, and has been working in high-performance computing and big data field for more than 10 years at many institutions including National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) and Harvard Medical School. He always looks for opportunities where SOM-RC team can maximize the potential of computational biomed research by providing expertise in big data analysis and advanced computing.

Neal Magee

Neal Magee, PhD

Cloud Solution Architect
Neal designs scaling, service-driven, distributed systems in the public cloud. His recent work has been built primarily in Amazon Web Services, a platform in which he is a certified solution architect. Drawing on a background in development and operations, his work now focuses on “programmable infrastructure” that changes dynamically with the needs of an application. He has extensive experience with Python, the Amazon / Google / Microsoft public clouds, and architecting dynamic systems that scale and heal automatically. Neal is also interested in IoT and data sensor projects that gather large amounts of data.

Research Computing Associate
Pete teaches, consults and contributes to scientific programming and data analysis projects. With expertise in R and Python, he’s been active in package development and a variety of open-source collaborations.

Christina Gancayco

Christina Gancayco

Research Computing Associate
Christina recently joined SOM research computing and brings with her expertise in image analysis and Matlab. Prior to joining the team, Christina performed brain imaging research in the University of Virginia Department of Radiology and Medical Imaging. She takes great pride in developing computational solutions for expediting long or repetitive processes and looks forward to collaborating on more image analysis projects.
